Anurag Thakur is the New Youngest President of the BCCI. Anurag Thakur, 41, is set to become one of the youngest BCCI presidents on Sunday afternoon. Thakur, Currently the BCCI secretary, will officially take up the most high-profile position in Indian Cricket administration at the board's special general meeting in Mumbai and his tenure will expand until September 2017.
The president's post had been vacated when Shashank Manohar had stepped down a week ago. Thakur, as a result of the support he has gained since he was appointed joint secretary in September 2011, appeared to be the automatic choice to replace Manohar, who has since been elected the ICC's first independent chairman.
As per the BCCI constitution, its president is elected by a rotational system where each of the five zones is given the chance to put a candidate forward at the special general meeting.
It was the East zone's turn this time and if there had been more than one nomination, an election would have been held. However, at the deadline to file nominations on Saturday, there was only one name doing the rounds. Thakur was formally endorsed by all six units of the East Zone - Cricket Association of Bengal, National Cricket Club, Odisha Cricket Association, Tripura Cricket Association, Assam Cricket Association and Jharkhand Cricket Association.

Italian Chefs create mile-long Neapolitan to break longest pizza record. Along with 100 chefs collaborated to create a 1853.88 meters (6082.2 feet/ 1.15 miles) long neapolitan, which Guinness World Records has just confirmed is officially the Longest Pizza ever made.
The Recipe included 2,000 kg of flour, 1,600 kg of tomatoes, 2,000 kg of fiordilatte cheese and 200 litres of Olive oil.
During the 'L'Unione Fa La Pizza event, the skilled chefs spent 11 hours preparing the traditional Italian treat and used five specially-made portable wood fire ovens to ensure the mile-long pizza was cooked to perfection.
Guinness World Records adjudicator Lucia Sinigagliesi attended the event to verify the record attempt.

Researchers have designed new eyeglasses using high-power prisms to optimally expand the visual fields of both eyes are cut by half. The new designs address some limitations of existing prism correction available to this population.
Impairing either the left or right halves of the visual fields in both eyes, hemianopia is most commonly caused by stroke, brain tumours and head trauma. Hemianopia reduces the natural visual field of about 180 degree to a mere 90 degree. People with hemianopia have difficulty detecting hazards on their blind sides - leading to collisions, falls and other accidents.
One method of treatment for hemianopia is to expand the expand the visual field with prisms mounted on or embedded in eyeglasses.
A research team led by professor Eli peli from Harvard Medical School has been developing Prism devices to expand the visual field for these patients for more than 15 years. The peripheral prism glasses - their most recent commercially available device, introduced in 2013 - have been shown to expand the visual fields of patients with hemianopia by as much as 30 degree, optically shifting objects from the blind side of the visual field to the seeing side.
With the goal of expanding the visual field on the blind side even farther, the researchers explored new optical techniques to create higher power image shifting devices designed to bend the light farther than the 30 degree limit of conventional prisms.
By embedding the current prism in a spectacle lens that has prismatic power in the opposite direction, the image shifting effect is increased by the summation of the power of both prism types. This design - described in the journal Optometry and Vision Science - allowed for up to 36 degree of expansion to the visual field on the patient's blind side.
"The new optical devices can improve the functionality of the current prism devices used for visual field expansion and may find use in various other field expansion applications such as a mobility aid for patients with tunnel vision," peli said.

A team of researchers at the University of Maryland has taken the idea of making wood transparent one better, by making it stronger than glass and thus more useful for a variety of applications. And this transparent wood is more stronger than glass and it might be useful in solar panel development.
It could be done by boiling pieces of wood in water, Sodium hydroxide and a few other chemicals for approximately two hours to remove the lignin that gives wood its color. Afterwards they applied a transparent polymer to give the resulting product back some of the resilience it lost when the lignin was removed.
In this new effort, the researchers used approximately the same technique to remove the lignin, but then coated it with an epoxy to make the wood even stronger than glass, and it will biodegrade much better than plastic.
As the team notes, treating wood does not destroy the channels in it that were originally used by the tree it came from to carry water. After treatment, the channels are able to carry light, a very useful property that might lead to transparent wood being used as a way to funnel more light to solar panels - testing has shown that as much as 90 percent of the light shone on it could pass through. It also means the wood is able to scatter light, which could make it useful as a privacy window - light could come through, but those passing by outside would not be able to make out the forms of people inside.
The researchers believe their product might also prove useful in automobiles, because it is so light, or as building blocks in other applications, or even in optical equipment because it is so inexpensive to make. Before that can happen, though , more work needs to be done, because the current process only works on small pieces of wood - the test material was just five by five inches in area and only a centimeter thick.

Vasco da Gama the first European who reached India via the Atlantic Ocean at May 20 1498. He arrives calicut on the Malabar Coast.
Gama sailed from Lisbon, Portugal, in july 1497, rounded the Cape of Good Hope, and Anchored at Malindi on the east coast of Africa. With the help of the Indian merchant he met there, he then set off across the Indian Ocean. The Portuguese explorer was not greeted warmly by the Muslim merchants of Calicut, and in 1499 he had to fight his way out of the harbor on his return trip home. In 1502, he led a squadron of ships to Calicut to avenge the massacre of Portuguese explorers there and succeeded in subduing the inhabitants. In 1524, he was sent as viceroy to Indis, but he fell ill and died in Cochin.

“Missing you…” That’s the next SMS from Sheetal currently showing up on my phone.
“Rana you understand me so well…I feel I’ve known you for many lives…” Reads the next.
I smiled. To my utter surprise I started feeling the first few puffs of that sharp, heady, intoxicating thing inside myself again. It all fell in place. Sheetal?? But of course! We were both survivors. We both wanted the same things in a partner – truly-deeply-madly real love, a pure heart and absolute honesty. And hey – we could share anything and everything with each other, even our deepest fears, pains and stupid hopes. I did it again.
Sulagna, you know, sometimes such tiny things affect our lives in such immeasurable ways? Like you couldn’t find your wallet in the morning, so left for work 5 minutes later than usual and when you arrived at the station you found out all trains were running an hour late because your usual train – which you missed because of the delay – has just met with a terrible accident?
Sometimes, it’s the reverse. Something huge happens and shakes up your tiny, mundane life in ways you never expected. Or deserved.
Rahul’s dad died in his office of a sudden heart attack just a few weeks after we fell out. Long story short – Sheetal went back to Rahul. “I’m sorry, but I can never forgive myself for what happened. I feel guilty. The least I can do is be by his side now…” She sobbed into the phone.
I pretended to smile.
What could I do? I know the world is not fair. Good things happen to bad people.
But still I stay awake at night. I haven’t been able to make peace with myself. Not yet. What should I tell myself? Any suggestions? What can I tell myself to make sense of what happened to me? Am I being oversensitive? Like most people should I pretend emotions don’t exist and the cruder aspects of life are its only real aspects?
I don’t know.

At stake: the potential to eventually create a human life without the need for parents.
On Tuesday, about 150 scientists, lawyers and entrepreneurs gathered at Harvard Medical School to discuss a future project to improve techniques to synthesize human DNA from chemicals. But they held the meeting behind closed doors, with explicit instructions not to contact the media, getting the scientific community in a tizzy. At the top of their worry pile is that the project will end up innovating new ways to make synthetic human genes, which could lead to them being used to artificially create humans.
Scientists Drew Endy of Stanford and Laurie Zoloth of Northwestern University criticized the meeting for keeping the debate private. Developing newer, cheaper techniques to synthesize human gene pairs would benefit science, but aspiring to recreate the full genome synthetically may have unintended consequences and scare away public funding, they argue. And if the meeting was about synthetic human genes, there should be a public debate on the morality of creating or editing human genes.
But synthetically creating life is not what they intend, said Harvard Medical School genetics professor George Church, one of the organizers of the secret meeting's project. Instead, the project aims to improve techniques to synthesize long strands of DNA, Church told the New York Times, which could be applied to various animals, plants and microbes.
If folks were worried, it's likely because the initial invitation to the Harvard meeting stated that the project's primary goal was to "synthesize a complete human genome in a cell line within a period of ten years." But its title was changed to "HGP-Write: Testing Large Synthetic Genomes in Cells," reflecting the project's nature as a follow-up to the Human Genome Project, which completely mapped the full human genome by 2003. The originally-stated goal was a bit of aspirational sensationalism, said the organizers -- a bit of moonshot hyperbole to boost enthusiasm in the scientific community.
Regardless, synthesizing base pairs of genes has only gotten cheaper, from $4 per pair in 2003 to $.03 today. Synthesizing all three billion pairs in the human genome would still cost $90 million now, but the per-pair cost is expected to continue dropping.

“Don’t do anything. We’re OK.J J ;) ;) ” That’s the next message I see from Sheetal, as I scroll down my inbox archives today. I know. Women!!
In spite of being ineffective in splitting up the couple, which I knew – and still know – is what Sheetal needed, this hiccup in their relationship holds a huge significance to me. This was the genesis of a deep friendship between me and Sheetal. My depression wasn’t getting any better. I was desperate to trust someone, to open up to someone, to have someone croon me a few words of sympathy. I held on to Sheetal like a drowning man to a straw. She didn’t hold back. We became the best of friends, sharing everything about Ranja and a tiny little bit about Rahul. (Sheetal is a Bharatiya Nari, remember? ;))
Months passed by. Our exams ended. Rahul travelled to another university in a different city for his internship. And then one day I received a call from him.
It fills me with anger, pain and shock as I relive that call even today.
“You think I’m a fool, don’t you? You think I don’t know anything about what’s going on? I’ve checked out all of the messages that were exchanged between you and my girlfriend you son of a b***h! You see, I had plenty of time when you were deep in sleep, probably dreaming of her naked body. I can’t stoop to the level of “battling this out with you,” so to speak. So let me tell you this once and for all – you’re free to get as close to my soon-to-be-ex girlfriend as you want, but do not contact me ever in this life again. For you, I never existed.”
I sat on my bed, shaking, with tears running down my cheeks even long after he’d hung up. I had no idea what had just happened. I had never, ever thought of Sheetal as anything other than an understanding, trusted friend. How could I? Ranja – and the pain of losing her – occupied every square millimetre of my heart. More than the pain of losing my best friend of three years – the pain of feeling wronged overwhelmed me. I wailed and wailed for what felt like hours but was in reality 15 minutes. And then I popped two Avomine tablets and slept the whole day.
“Tujh se naraaz nahi zindagi, hayraan hoon main…”
Yeah life is ironic sometimes. That’s the painful tune which woke me up next morning as I peered at the screen, barely recognizing Sheetal’s name through my groggy-eyed haze.
One more deluge of tears. Rahul had used up his entire dictionary of teenage slangs in an hours long call he had had with her the previous day, Sheetal informed.
“I almost hate myself now. Even though it never crossed my mind that you could be anything but a very close, very dear friend to me, maybe he’s right. May be it’s impossible for a male and a female to be just friends. I’m sorry for everything Rana … ” The trauma had left her out of her senses.
We talked. For hours. Sharing our sorrows. Our pain. The hurt we felt for being misunderstood by someone closest to each of us. And in the end we agreed he was beyond us. He had something in him that was tearing him apart. And honestly, neither of us had the capability to handle it. From this point, we started avoiding him.
to be continue......

In a first, a fleet of NASA's four spacecrafts, dubbed Magnetospheric Multiscale mission, has recorded magnetic explosions above the Earth. Recent revelations of the recordings, taken in October 2015, showed that when two magnetic fields collide, electrons shoot out from the point of impact in straight lines and then slowly begin to curve in response to the new magnetic fields.
Scientists have published their first findings from the Magnetospheric Multiscale (MMS) mission.
Space might look like a sprawling, inky abyss, but invisible to the human eye is a wealth of magnetic activity. Earth has a magnetic field called the magnetosphere, which is frequently buffeted by solar winds exuded by the Sun. These winds carry their own magnetic field and produce what scientists call a "magnetic reconnection" high above the Earth's surface. In March 2015, NASA launched four spacecraft, known as MMS, so they couldtravel through the magnetosphere and record these reactions. Now, scientists have published their initial observations in the journal Science.
Recordings from a flyby in October 2015 show that when two magnetic fields collide, electrons shoot out from the point of impact in straight lines, speeding through the magnetic boundaries that would normally contain them. Once free, they slowly begin to curve and ultimately perform a U-turn in response to the new magnetic fields they encounter.
The quality of the data collected by MMS is unprecedented. Scientists have used satellites before to observe this phenomena, but as NASA explains, it was "like seeing debris flung out from a tornado, but never seeing the storm itself." With MMS, researchers can sail into the heart of the storm.
"The decades-old mystery is what do the electrons do, and how do the two magnetic fields interconnect," Jim Burch, lead author of the Science paper and principal investigator for MMS at the Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio said. "Satellite measurements of electrons have been too slow by a factor of 100 to sample the magnetic reconnection region. The precision and speed of the MMS measurements, however, opened up a new window on the universe, a new 'microscope' to see reconnection."
Magnetic reconnection converts magnetic energy into kinetic or thermal energy. It's important to understand this phenomenon because it influences the "space weather" found in the Earth's magnetosphere. Here, humanity operates a range of satellites which are occasionally disrupted by these intense reactions. MMS observations will allow NASA to improve its predictions for magnetic reconnection and, as a result, better control its equipment in space. Magnetic fields are present in other parts of the universe too, so dissecting these reactions -- a prime driver of space radiation -- could also protect our astronauts on risky missions.
