If reports are to be believed, Akshay Kumar might bag the Hindi remake rights of Vijay-starrer Theri.
Akshay Kumar is one of the few Bollywood actors who has starred in a handful of South remakes. From Rowdy Rathore to Holiday to Gabbar Is Back, the 48-year-old actor has struck gold at the box office with these Hindi remakes. And after the commercial success of these films, Khiladi Kumar is reportedly planning to bag the remake rights of Vijay-starrer Theri.
The Tamil film, which hit the screens in April this year, managed to cast its spell on the audience and soon attained the status of a blockbuster. And according to a report in Mid-Day, Akshay wants to remake Theri in Hindi.
A source was quoted as telling the tabloid, "Akshay is keen to remake Theri under his production banner and has initiated talks with the makers for the rights. Interestingly, the film surpassed the opening week collections of Akshay's Airlift in the overseas market, especially Australia, and is still doing brisk business. That probably caught the Khiladi's attention."
If things go as per plan, this would be the third time that Akshay will step into Vijay's shoes for a Hindi remake. He was earlier seen in the Hindi remake of Thuppakki, titled Holiday: A Solider Is Never Off Duty. And he will begin shooting for the remake of Kaththi in August this year.
Another industry insider was quoted as telling the tabloid, "Akshay's team is in touch with makers of Theri. He found out about the film after it set new records at the box office. The script is interesting and Akshay knows he can fit the lead role with ease. Once the paperwork is finalised, a formal announcement shall be made."
Akshay is currently awaiting the release of Housefull 3. Apart from the comic caper, he will also be seen in Neeraj Pandey's Rustom.
