The girl's name was Bella Bond, officials said. She was just 2 1/2 years old, the prosecutor said.
Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said the mother's boyfriend, Michael Patrick McCarthy will be charged with Bella's murder. The child's mother, Rachelle Bond, has been arrested for allegedly being an accessory after the fact. "This child, whose very name means beauty, was murdered," he said.
The girl's body was discovered June 25 in a trash bag on Deer Island in Massachusetts by a woman walking her dog. Authorities said they believe the child -- found wrapped in a blanket -- was placed there. Authorities at the time said that a cause of death could not be determined. An analysis of pollen on the girl's clothing indicated that she was likely from the Boston area.
Police released a computer-generated composite image of the girl this summer, prepared by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, to depict what she may have looked like.Police also released images of the leggings she was wearing when discovered, as well as the zebra-striped blanket found with her body.
